Development of Health Facilities
Currently the Metropolis can boost of Effia Nkwanta Hospital as the only major health center serving the whole Western Region. We can also talk of Takoradi Hospital, Kwesimintsim Polyclinic and Essikadu which are ancillary Hospitals helping Effia Nkwanta.

The Assembly is advocating the upgrading of Effia Nkwanta into a teaching Hospital. Furthermore the Assembly is providing some of the medical centres in the Metropolis with additional modern facilities to ease the increasing pressure on Effia Nkwanta Hospital.

To this end, the Shama Clinic has been rehabilitated, a kraal at Mampong is being converted into a Health Post and a Clinic is also under construction at New-Takoradi. The Assembly has also voted an amount of two billion cedis out of this year’s budget to construct an emergency and accident unit at Takoradi hospital.
